Using the SDK ¶

OpenAxis is available under Elastic License 2.0 (ELv2) or GPLv3, at your option. This choice covers SDK source (including helpers), examples, documentation, and the protocol specification, unless otherwise noted. Both options permit commercial and noncommercial use without SDK royalties.

If you distribute a proprietary application that incorporates or links the OpenAxis SDK, or a plugin that links the SDK into a proprietary host process, you must use the OpenAxis SDK under Elastic License 2.0 (ELv2). Releasing a plugin’s own source code under an open-source license does not remove this requirement.

Under ELv2, you are not required to publish your own application or plugin source code. Include the ELv2 license terms, preserve notices, and prominently identify modified SDK copies. The OpenAxis client includes license verification for authorized devices and servers; this is license-key functionality protected by ELv2.

Use the GPLv3 option for integrations distributed in compliance with GPLv3, including compatible GPL and AGPL applications. Distributors must meet the applicable source, notice, and other GPL obligations. No additional proprietary-linking exception is granted.

Your own integration code may use a separate license compatible with your chosen SDK license. Its license does not relicense the SDK. Third-party dependencies retain their respective licenses. These licenses do not cover separately distributed proprietary Rotatrix software.

This guidance does not modify the SDK licenses. The applicable license terms control.

Patents ¶

Patent applications relating to the Rotatrix device and host software are pending.

OpenAxis provides application-side camera and navigation integration. Its licenses cover the distributed OpenAxis materials, not separately distributed Rotatrix products.

No general patent license to manufacture hardware or implement independent firmware or servers is granted. This notice does not limit rights granted under the applicable SDK license or arising under applicable law.

Trademarks ¶

"OpenAxis" and "Rotatrix" are trademarks of Icebound Flame LLC. The SDK licenses do not grant rights to use these trademarks.

Application, plugin, and client-library developers may truthfully describe their integration—for example, "Supports OpenAxis input from Rotatrix"—without implying official origin or endorsement. This permission does not extend to branding or marketing third-party hardware, firmware, input bridges, or servers, including compatibility slogans or badges.

Written authorization is required for logos, approval badges, or claims of certification, authorization, or endorsement. Technical interoperability does not constitute approval. Approval of an original release does not extend automatically to modified versions.

This policy grants no permission to use OpenAxis or Rotatrix as the product, package, or distribution name of a modified SDK or specification, or to present it as an official release.

Nothing here restricts trademark uses permitted by law, including fair use and nominative use.
